Remember: Free comic book day tommorow!

I have heard about free comic book day, and a friend asked me the other day why I had not posted about it on my blog and the truth is that I did not really know who around town was participating in it or what to tell you about it. Luckily I am a dedicated Omaha World Herald subscriber and reader and today they had a small article about it in the Midlands section, as well as an ad from Krypton Comics about it in the "Go" section.

So here is the 411. The first Saturday in May of each year, comic book stores across North America (and evidently all around the world) give away comic books for FREE to anyone that comes into their store. That is THIS SATURDAY May 1!! Wowsa!

There is a website, all about it. Go check that out. There is a store locator on the left side of the sites main page where you can find local shops. FYI-participations and rules can evidently vary from store to store. There are 6 shops in the Omaha area participating, so one is bound to be near by.

I mentioned that there was an ad in the Omaha World Herald for Krypton Comics, and I wanted to specifically talk about them because they have some cool stuff going on there in conjunction with their free comic book giveaway. From 10am-6pm Ray Park (aka Darth Maul) will be there! (Autographs are for a fee). Cynthia Martin, who is a local comic book artist will also be there as well as many other local artists. Should be pretty awesome, so you may want to go check that out!

Remember: Whole Foods & YoBaby Event Tomorrow!

Do you remember I told you about the upcoming movie Babies here? Well, it's release date is creeping up on us (Mother's Day Weekend), and now Whole Foods and YoBaby Yogurt are celebrating babies everywhere and promoting the movie.

This Saturday, May 1st, you can visit participating Whole Foods to try a FREE sample of YoBaby Meals. If you bring a non-perishable food item, you will receive a coupon good for one free YoBaby yogurt 4-pack. Each donation supports Stonyfield & Whole Foods Nourishing Communities initiative.

You can also win free tickets to the pre-release screening of the new movie BABIES. Tickets will be given out throughout the day.

Check here for your local store (up on the top you can enter your zip code). And please make sure to call your local store and verify whether they are participating before you head down there!

Should be a lot of fun!!

Remember: LOTS happening in Omaha this weekend!

  • Saturday May 1: celebrate Arbor Day at Lauritzen Gardens. According to Lauritzen's website: "Families can enjoy a morning of fun activities dedicated to trees. There will be tree activity stations for families to learn about a variety of tree subjects such as bark, leaves and fruit. Family tree walks will also be offered at 10 a.m., 11 a.m. and noon. Each family will receive a free tree seedling while supplies last. Registration is not required, and all activities are free with paid garden admission or membership."  So you DO pay regular admission to the Garden, but then all the extra activities are free!
  • Saturday May 1: celebrate Cinco De Mayo with the 25th Annual Parade on 24th St starting at 10 am. There are a number of other event going on in conjunction with this. Please see their website here. As a note, we have friends that participate in this parade every year and it is the highlight of the year in their home! We have not been yet, but it looks like a blast! And the Parade is free to view!
  • May 1 & May 2: Nebraska Renaissance and Medieval Pageant at the Bellevue Berry Farm. Not free, but looks like a blast. According to their website though you can get a family pass (for a family of 4) for $25, which is a good deal! Make sure to check out their website.
  • All Weekend: The annual Arbor Day festival is going on in Nebraska City Friday, Saturday and Sunday! For more information please see the Nebraska City website here.

Remember: Sam's club Tastes and TIps event starts today and goes all weekend

Friday April 30, Saturday May 1, and Sunday May 2 from 11:30 am-5:30 pm they will be sampling food and products as well as giving "great ideas and solutions to simplify your life."
