FAM Farm Laundry Soap Review and #giveaway!! (ends 4/5/12)

Boy am I excited to share with you this FANTASTIC product I got to try out (and one of YOU will also get to try)! It is Homemade Laundry Soap from The FAM Farm and it is awesome! I love the product, and even more, I LOVE supporting a "mompreneur". Let me tell you about it!

What is it?

As I said, it is homemade laundry soap. And this is what The FAM farm website says about it:
Made with all natural phosphate free ingredients, safe for septic system, low sudsing for GE washers, gentle enough for baby clothes and your other 'delicates' and yet is works so hard on tough stains and smells--including the smell of cat urine, something no other laundry detergent I have ever used has been able to do.

This soap is the what they mean when they say 'big things come in small packages' because each load only requires 1 TBS--even in our super capacity 4.3 cu ft HE washer

(the soap ships in BPA free bags, but this picture is to give you an idea of how much, the Quarts contain 64 loads, the pint contains 32 loads--once the soap arrives you can always put it in any airtight container you want, or leave it in the baggie)

What did I think?

Well. I must admit, I was a little leery. As I have mentioned many times, we have some very sensitive skin in this house, particularly on my husband and my 5-year-old son. These guys can hardly use any soaps (gentle baby soap only), one is allergic to sunscreen, and one is allergic to deodorant. Both break out in terrible rashes often (especially when I change soaps or laundry detergent). So, I was a little worried about changing up their laundry soap. Meagan (the mastermind mom over at The FAM Farm) knew about the sensitive skin and even before sending me any products to try, she asked a lot of questions about what has and has not worked for the guys here. She took great care to make up something for us that would work! And the results were fantastic.

Right before Meagan contacted me to review her soap, Mr Beckee's Deals had started to become sensitive to the laundry soap I was using. The poor guy was so rashy and he couldn't stand the itch that was everywhere (his clothes, the sheets, EVERYWHERE). So, unbeknownst to him, when I got my The FAM Farm soap, I switch on him. I did not tell him, but he was complaining less about rashes. I asked him about it and he said it seems to have gotten better. Booh Yeah! The new Laundry soap worked!

Oh and guess what? It smells good! And it gets out stains and still keeps my delicates nice. Needless to say, I liked it. A Lot.

Where can you get this awesome product?

Well, Check out The FAM Farm website where you can order your very own Laundry soap, She has other great products as well (like some dishwasher soap I also tried and liked). Soon she will be making goat soaps and will be using essential oils from a company called Doterra. She is an IPC for them and you can check out her page there as well: MyDoterra page for Meagan.

Also check out her Facebook Page, and her new blog.

What can you win?

One lucky Beckee's Deals reader will win 2 sample soaps of their choosing (which is the the same thing I got)--2 bags each containing 16-32 loads of laundry soap and/or automatic dishwasher detergent. To enter, just use the rafflecopter form below (it may take a minute to load):

Kids Eat free/cheap (Even MORE updates!)

The first week I put up my new list, I noted that I was doing so because I was frustrated by the fact that other online lists are TOTALLY outdated. I have tried to verify all the ones on this list. They have all been used by myself or a friend. However, many of the chain restaurants have deals that vary from store to store and restaurants change their promotions from time to time. So, to avoid the frustrations I have had, please call your local store before you head over to make sure they are participating in the kids eat free or cheap promotion! :)

Kids eat free:
  • Hyvee: Eat FREE on Thursdays with an adult meal purchase at any of the following eating locations in the store: Italian, Chinese Express, Kitchen. Dine in only. (one kids meal per adult meal purchased)
  • China Buffet: Tuesday kids eat free with adult meal purchase
  • Denny's: Night Varies by location 4-10 pm (I have not used this one since August, but it is listed on their website as available at different nights depending on location-you will wnat to call your local location to see what night they do)
  • Lone Star: Tuesday all day up to 2 free kids meals per adult meal purchase.
  • Spaghetti Works: Monday up to 2 free kids meals per adult meal purchased
  • Pepperjax Grill: Wednesday night 2 free kids meals per adult meal purchased (5-8pm)
  • Grisanti's Italian: Monday night
  • La Mesa: Thursday night One free kids meal per adult meal purchased. I know this is good at the location on 156th and Q but I do not know about the other locations.
  • Pizza Ranch: Tuesday looks like one kid per adult meal purchase
  • Texas Roadhouse: Mondays 4-10PM one kid eats free with purchase of each adult meal
  • ***NOTE-I hesitantly include this one because we have REPEATEDLY had TERRIBLE service at the Texas Roadhouse in West Omaha and we will NOT eat there again even with good food and Free kids night. However, a friend noted that her family enjoys the one in PAPILLION! So I include this deal with a warning about the West Omaha location (and FYI-when I wrote to them about the issues we have had over and over, they did not reply or care at all. That is why we don't eat there anymore!)***
  • Chick Fil A: Wednesday nights One free kids meal per adult combo meal (A friend told me that this is good in Utah locations on Wednesday. I do not know if our new Chick fil A in Omaha has a kids night or not).
  • HuHot: Night Varies by location Note that Kids 3 and under are FREE always, but in addition to that, MANY HuHot locations have a Kids night where kids under 11 eat free with adult meal purcahse. (Sadly Omaha doesn't anymore) Click on the restaurant name to see if your local HuHot has a kids night, and which night it is!
  • O'Charley's: Day Varies by location 2 kids free per adult meal (This one is not in Nebraska but in lots of other states East of us!)
  • A+ Buffet and Mongolian GrillThursdays all day Kids ages 3-10 one free per adult meal purchase
  • Buffalo Wings and Rings: Mondays  (looks like one free per adult meal)
  • IKEA: Kids eat free on Tuesday in Utah (Thanks Aubrie) (also I noticed at their site that Mondays there is FREE breakfast until 11 am and Fridays you can get a hotdog and a soda for only $1)
  • Cafe Rio: My friend Catherine told me that Kids can get a free cheese Quesadilla! Awesome! (I LOVE and MISS Cafe Rio!)
  • Salgado's Mexican Grill in Omaha (around 9-th and Fort). Kids eat free Wednesdays (Thanks Chrissy!)
  • Heartland BBQ at 5402 NW Radial Highway has free Kids Meals (I think every day?! I will check on that to be sure) (Thanks Chrissy)NW Radial Highway | Omaha, Nebraska 68104

LOVE meal deals for kids! Looks like Fuddruckers in Omaha (both locations) will have $.99 Kids meals all day on Mondays and Tuesdays. AND the small print at the bottom says you can get 2 kids meals per adult meal purchased! Sweet! I have no clue how long this promo goes, so go soon (or call ahead to make sure it is still on before you head out)!

John Carter opens today (must read for parents) + peek at The Lone Ranger!

The other day, I wrote a little post about a couple of Disney movies: John Carter and Frankenweenie. As you probably know, John Carter comes out in theaters today. I know there have been a lot of questions about John Carter (even my husband was asking me about it) so I wanted to share this great article with you. Geek dad over at Wired.com was able to preview the movie and he wrote a FANTASTIC blog post about John Carter called 10 Things Parents should know about Disney's John Carter. Great post-go read it!

And while I have your attention, let me give you a first peek at another upcoming Disney movie that I am really excited for (upcoming in 2013): The Lone Ranger (with Johnny Depp!!). Read the info I was sent:

From producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Gore Verbinski comes Disney/Bruckheimer Films' THE LONE RANGER. Tonto (Johnny Depp), a spirit warrior on a personal quest, joins forces in a fight for justice with John Reid (Armie Hammer), a lawman who has become a masked avenger.

THE LONE RANGER will be released in May 2013.

Looks sooooo good!! I guess that is what I will do for my anniversary next year...

John Carter and Frankenweenie!

I am on the Dianey blogger list now, wich means I get some fun information to share with you about their upcoming and current movies. I want to share a couple of the funt hisngs I have heard about over the past couple weeks.

First, if you have not heard about John Carter yet, it is a Disney movie that opens the Friday everywhere. Here is a little snipit about the movie:

JOHN CARTER is directed by 2-time Academy Award winner Andrew Stanton (“Finding Nemo” & “Wall-E”) and is based on the novels by Edgar Rice Burroughs which were the inspiration for such classic sci-fi adventure movies like “Star Wars” and “Avatar.”

Here is a preview:

You can "Like" JOHN CARTER on Facebook or visit the official site to learn more! (Remember it opens this Friday 3/9/12)

Also, My family saw a movie in the theatre on Saturday and there was a preview for the upcoming Frankenweenie movie. It looks interesting. My boys (the 2 old enough to talk) both yelled "I want to see that!" in the theatre at the end of the preview! And I was sent a preview to share with you!

It opens on October 5, 2012 in theatres and looks like a good one to see as a family!

Happy Birthday Dr Seuss!!!

Happy Birthday Theodore Seuss Geisel (better known as Dr Seuss)!

If you have kids, teach kids or know kids (or are on FB) you probably know that today is Mr Geisel's birthday! That's right Dr Seuss was born on this day over 100 years ago. Though he is no longer on this earth, his work lives on and we honor him still in elementary schools all over on this day! I LOVE that! I love that we celebrate the day he came to this Earth, and I love that we celebrate it by honoring his work. I love that my kids have Cat in the Hat hats to wear, Green Eggs and Ham to eat, and wore crazy "Fox in Socks" socks to school today! What a great, imaginative celebration!!! We celebrate it each year at this house.

But I learned something new this year! My friend Hilary posted the following status on FB today:

My favorite Dr. Seuss story contains no sneetches or grinches or cats wearing hats. It's the story of Theodor Geisel, an unpublished manuscript, 27 publishers, and 27 rejections. In frustration, he decided to give up on writing for children and set off to burn the manuscript. Before he could reach his apartment, he chanced upon an old school friend. He told his story, and his friend told his own. He had just become the juvenile editor for Vanguard Press, and asked to see the manuscript.

What followed was the publishing of And to Think I Saw It on Mulberry Street and the birth of Dr Seuss.

"Think left and think right and think low and think high. Oh, the thinks you can think up if only you try!"

WHAT? Why have i never heard this great story? I was able to verify this is true on a few websites. On this site writer Melissa Kaplan wrote:

Striding down the street after being rejected for the twenty-eighth time, crumpled Story manuscript jammed under his arm, he was on his way home to burn it when he bumped into an old Dartmouth classmate, Mike McClintock. Mike had, just three hours earlier, been appointed Children's Book Editor by Vanguard Press and was in a bind. Having sold himself to Vanguard as having many connections, he in fact had no manuscript to submit. They ran into each other, the manuscript changed hands, and several months later, U.S. children met a new doctor. (Ted was able to return the favor years later when, as one of Beginner Books' offerings in 1958, McClintock's A Fly Went By was published.)

Let me tell you what I love about this story. I love that he was so committed that he went to 27-28 publishers and got rejected over and over. Through all that-he persevered! He kept going and did not give up! Then, THEN, right at that moment, the moment of giving up, the right person was thrust back into his life at the right time! And Because of this "chance meeting" (which I do not think was by chance) we have been blessed with the amazing work of Mr Geisel as Dr Seuss! WONDERFUL!!

Don't give up! Keep going, and know that at your moment of weakness when you think you are ready to give up-and your breaking point, someone is watching out for you! LOVE!

Just had to share because I feel like it was a great "Deals" for us to have the works of Dr Seuss. Now, go put on some crazy socks, read a Dr Seuss book and have some Green Eggs and Ham for dinner!

Pollbuzzzer: EASY way to make a few extra bucks...

So, I signed up for this polling site, Pollbuzzer a while ago. Another blogger had posted about it, so I joined it through her referral link. Supposedly this site will send you a poll with one question, and if you answer that one question, they will give you $1 through PayPal. I was not sure it would really work, and I joined it a few weeks ago. Today I got my first email poll, and it really did credit me $1 Paypal. Seriously. It took 3 seconds to answer the poll (which I did right when the email came to me-you have to answer the poll "in time" whatever that means). Anyway, it is a fun little way to possible make a few bucks here and there. If you are interested in trying it out with me, please sign up using my referral link here. Then let me know when you start getting polls to answer! :)
