Omaha Public Library Summer Reading Kick Off Next Week!
10:18 AM
I told you the other day about the Barnes and Noble Summer reading program for grades 1-6 that we love to participate in each summer. Well, the other summer reading program we love to participate in each summer is for kids of any age and is run through the Omaha Public Library. It is really neat and there are usually like 4 levels of prizes and you get one level for every 10 books you read with younger kids or that older kids read themselves. It varies a bit each year, but that is the general gist of it. Last year we got free tickets for all our kids to the state fair as well as free books each and lots of other fun prizes. It is a GREAT program! The kick off party for this summer will be on Tuesday, June 1. I know that is a month away, but worth letting you know about to plan on! I will remind you again closer. Here are the details from the Omaha Public Library website:
Event Type: Summer Reading Program Event
Date: 6/1/2010
Start Time: 6:00 PM
End Time: 8:00 PM
Description: Make waves at Elmwood Park! Splish splash with animals and have oceans of fun at the dunk tank, among other high-sea adventures. Join Scamper and your friends as we turn on the waterworks to welcome the Summer Reading Program!

Locals: What is your favorite unique Omaha place?
9:13 AM
As you know by now, I get the newspaper at my house and love it! Not just for the Sunday coupons, but also for all the great info on upcoming fun and free activities and local goings on. I love to be "in the know".
Today in the GO Magazine section there was an article written by Josefina Loza about 32 Adventures in Omaha. Some were things I, and most Omahans have probably done, but a few were new to me. For example, I never knew The Bemis Center for Contemporary Art even existed. But it does, and it is FREE! What?! How did I not know that. I also liked her idea of driving the hour to Shenandoah, Iowa to see a traditional soda fountain. Oh, and you can tour the Omaha World Herald! Awesome!!
That article made me wonder what other different, quirky, fun things there are to do in Omaha that I don't even know about. So, what do you guys like to do around town that others may nit know about? Did you know there are Gondola rides at Con Agra's pond? Did you know there are river boat tours on the Missouri? Have you ever gone down on 24th street and been to any of the authentic Mexican restaurants?

Thrifty Thursday: Kids Eat Free!!
8:13 AM
We have 4 kids, so when we go out to eat, it costs a pretty penny-we are always left with the questions of whether a babysitter or paying for them to come with us will be cheaper. One way we have found to really combat the costs of going out to eat (on those rare occasions we do), is to find places that have Kids Eat Free (or cheap) deals! Remember to check with your local stores to make sure they participate in these promotions before you head over there!
Here are some FREE ones we have discovered in out experience and really like:
As I was checking around the Internet to see what other places I could tell you about, I found an awesome website where you can search for places where kids eat free in your city. It is My Kids Eat Free. Go check it out-it has a lot of the ones listed I have above and a few more.
Here are some FREE ones we have discovered in out experience and really like:
- Sizzler: Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday (only some locations have Wednesday's too) Kids eat free Salad bar with an adult entree meal (last time we went in they told us you can get 2 free kids meals with each adult meal. So, we get all 4 kids to eat free at Sizzler-LOVE that)

- China Buffet: Tuesday kids eat free with adult meal purchase
