Remember: Free comic book day tommorow!
10:09 AM
I have heard about free comic book day, and a friend asked me the other day why I had not posted about it on my blog and the truth is that I did not really know who around town was participating in it or what to tell you about it. Luckily I am a dedicated Omaha World Herald subscriber and reader and today they had a small article about it in the Midlands section, as well as an ad from Krypton Comics about it in the "Go" section.
So here is the 411. The first Saturday in May of each year, comic book stores across North America (and evidently all around the world) give away comic books for FREE to anyone that comes into their store. That is THIS SATURDAY May 1!! Wowsa!
There is a website, reecomicbookday.com all about it. Go check that out. There is a store locator on the left side of the sites main page where you can find local shops. FYI-participations and rules can evidently vary from store to store. There are 6 shops in the Omaha area participating, so one is bound to be near by.
I mentioned that there was an ad in the Omaha World Herald for Krypton Comics, and I wanted to specifically talk about them because they have some cool stuff going on there in conjunction with their free comic book giveaway. From 10am-6pm Ray Park (aka Darth Maul) will be there! (Autographs are for a fee). Cynthia Martin, who is a local comic book artist will also be there as well as many other local artists. Should be pretty awesome, so you may want to go check that out!

"Tuesdays Travels" PLEASE read and give input!
11:22 AM
Exciting things coming here on the blog!!
You may not know this, but I LOVE to travel. I happen to be the worlds unluckiest traveler when it comes to flying or driving (someday I will share some of my stories-the favorite in my family is when we went to Greece-that was something!). In spite of my terrible luck, I still love traveling, and have been lucky enough to live in and travel to MANY great destinations!!
So, I am going to start a "Tuesdays Travels" series where I pick a popular destination (or one I know about) and give you the insider tricks I know (or can learn) about free things and deals in that city/travel destination. I will be asking readers to give input for their cities.
This Tuesday will focus on one of my favorite places to visit: New York City-if you have any tips and tricks for New York, please message me on Facebook or email them to me (beckeesdeals@gmail.com ) and I will include them (giving you credit of course) in the first Tuesday Travel!
Any requests for future cities or destinations for me to focus on?! Requests can me sent on email, Facebook, or left as a comment on this post! Cannot wait to hear from you all!!

Annual Arbor Day Festival in Nebraska City this weekend.
11:16 AM
If you are not from Nebraska, you may not realize that we are the Home of Arbor Day (which is this weekend by the way). Well, I would be a terrible Nebraskan if I was mentioning all these things going on around this weekend and I left out the fact that the annual Arbor Day festival is going on in Nebraska City Friday, Saturday and Sunday! For more information please see the Nebraska City website here.
Now, to make myself a full-fledged Nebraskan I guess I will have to make my way to that festival one of these years! :)

Upcoming FREE day at Lauritzen May 7
11:07 AM
Another thing I learned in today's Omaha World Herald in the Living section was that there is an upcoming FREE admission Day at Lauritzen Gardens. It will be on May 7 in Celebration of National Public Gardens Day. Wes (my husband) has still never been there in the 6 years we have lived here, so I hope he has that day off and I can finally show him this beautiful, uniquely Omaha garden!!

Some Events around Omaha in May (take note of May 15)
7:29 AM
When we moved back to Omaha 2 years ago (wow-was it really that long? time flies), we bought our first house. And as it turns out, we had the best relator EVER! In fact, if you are looking to buy or sell a home, I highly recommend talking to him, Mark Ciochon. (You can see his website here.)
Why do I bring this up now, you ask?! Well, he keeps in pretty good contact with us and sends us flyers of events and happenings in Omaha, updates of the market in Omaha, as well as just little notes now and then. Yesterday, I got one of the happenings in Omaha postcards, and there are some fun things coming up. No, they are not all free, in fact most are not, but I wanted to let you locals know about some of the upcoming events around. Thanks to Mark Ciochon for the card and information! Here are a few of my favorites:

Some of the highlights are free helmets (while supplies last ) and free bike checks for kids 15 and younger! We SO need to take out kids to this-you do need to register for this FREE event. Read all about it here.
- May 22: Omaha National Martial Arts Championship at Millard South High School. call 402-215-6003 for more information

CityDeals.com (SLC): Raging Waters 50% off + gift card promotion.
6:49 AM
Citydeals.com has a couple delas worth mention right now. First and foremost is that they have Raging Waters tickets half off. You can get them for $11.19 instead of $22.37. Click here to get that deal. But hurry, it is only while supplies last and offer ends tomorrow (4/30/2010).
Additionally, Citydeals.com has a promotion where you get at least a $5 gift certificate with any $30 or more purchase. But the trick is that the gift card you get could be for more than $5. It could be for $25, $50, or even $500! To get the giftcard of at least $5, you will need to spend $30+ and enter code 5R500 at checkout. (As far as I know, you can use this code more than once, so a tip here-if you are going to spend say $60+ on different items, I would try splitting them up into 2 orders of $30 and getting back at least 2 $5 gift cards.)
