Saturday Service is all about the things we can do to give back to the community, and this is a way we can give back directly to the teachers and schools. I wish this had been around (or that I had known about it) when I was a teacher! This is a great program to help teachers to do projects in their classrooms that they otherwise would not be able to do.

U.S. Cellular has this "Calling All Teachers" program in conjunction with DonorsChoose.org. Teachers can register on the site throughout the summer and then when school starts, those teachers that signed up can post requests for classroom projects that can possibly be funded. There is more information on this program here.

If you are a public school teacher, I recommend registering NOW at DonorsChoose.org to be designated a "U.S. Cellular Teacher". Then check back in August for more details about submitting your project for funding.

If you are not a teacher but would like to help fund some of the projects, check back in the fall to see what you can help with!

As a reminder, I intend for this series of posts to give suggestions of good day trips you can make in and around Omaha with your family. Hopefully it will give some good ideas of things to do close to home for local readers (and for those of you visiting Omaha, it might give you some ideas of what to do while you are here). Today, I want to talk about a favorite place for our family to visit any day of the week: Zorinsky Lake.  Check out the pictures I took of the sunset over the beautiful lake (this is from up on the trail):

Zorinsky Lake is located at 156th and F streets in West Omaha. There is a HUGE lake with about 7 miles of walking trails around it, a couple playgrounds, lots of picnic shelters, and now a brand new swimming area with water slides (opening tomorrow!!).

We LOVE to walk around the lake as a family and could easily spend all day there. If we were to spend the day there, here is what I would do:

Pack up a cooler for lunch (or the makings of a BBQ), then  choose which of the following activities I wanted to fit in:

• The new pool (This does cost money, but not bad for a daycation)
• Walk around the lake
• 
  
• Play at the playground
• If I had a boat (or a friend with one) I would happily just go boating all day!
• Fishing
• BBQ

Now, just as an FYI, you can reserve some of the covered shelters if you want to make sure you have a place to eat and hang out. You can find more infor about Shelter rentals here.

What an awesome deal this is!! Boyd and Charlie's BBQ in Elkhorn is having a $10/rack rib sale tomorrow (Saturday June 5) from 8-11 am (carry out only, while supplies last). I have not eaten there yet, but have heard GREAT things!!

Today must be the day for Events in Omaha! There is a FREE concert series at Rockbrook Village this summer again every Friday at 7PM until August 27.

I wish I had known about this earlier to tell you all, but luckily it is still going on through the weekend. The 86th Annual Santa Lucia Festival is going on at the Lewis and Clark Landing in Omaha through Monday June 7. There is FREE admission, and if you bring 2 canned goods to donate, you will get a FREE Fried Bread Dough at Santa Lucia Festival Committee Booths! Please read more about the Festival here.

Did you know that Shadow Lake Towne Center in Papillion has an outdoor concert series for FREE as well as Kids club activities? Every Friday from tonight through August 27 from 6:30-8:30 PM is a concert.

Tonight is a FREE concert by The Confidentials (funk, jazz, reggae) from 6:30-8:30 PM.

On Thursday June 10 there is a Kids activity at Borders!
