Locals: What is your favorite unique Omaha place?

As you know by now, I get the newspaper at my house and love it! Not just for the Sunday coupons, but also for all the great info on upcoming fun and free activities and local goings on. I love to be "in the know".

Today in the GO Magazine section there was an article written by Josefina Loza about 32 Adventures in Omaha. Some were things I, and most Omahans have probably done, but a few were new to me. For example, I never knew The Bemis Center for Contemporary Art even existed. But it does, and it is FREE! What?! How did I not know that. I also liked her idea of driving the hour to Shenandoah, Iowa to see a traditional soda fountain. Oh, and you can tour the Omaha World Herald! Awesome!!

That article made me wonder what other different, quirky, fun things there are to do in Omaha that I don't even know about. So, what do you guys like to do around town that others may nit know about? Did you know there are Gondola rides at Con Agra's pond? Did you know there are river boat tours on the Missouri? Have you ever gone down on 24th street and been to any of the authentic Mexican restaurants?

Remember: Tomorrow is free admission to Lauritzen

Another thing I learned in today's Omaha World Herald in the Living section was that there is an upcoming FREE admission Day at Lauritzen Gardens. It will be on May 7 in Celebration of National Public Gardens Day. Wes (my husband) has still never been there in the 6 years we have lived here, so I hope he has that day off and I can finally show him this beautiful, uniquely Omaha garden!!

**Possible $5 credit for Omaha World Herald online

Yesterday in the Omaha World Herald (the local newspaper) there was an article that I wanted to have my parents read. However, they live across the country. I learned to access the articles online you have to buy today's online paper for $0.75. I told my mom she should pay the money and read this article, so she did, but in the process, she discovered a pretty great deal.

When you sign up for a new account on the Omaha.com website when you sign up for a new account, evidently they credit you with $5! So, my mom actually did not pay for today's paper at all. She actually has a $4.25 credit in her account now after getting yesterday's paper. So, if you want to read the online version of the Omaha World Herald for any reason coming up, you might want to get a new account on the website now so you can get the credit. Who know how long that promotion will last!

Click on this link. Once you get there scroll down about half way and on the right you will see "Today's E edition." You need to click on the link for "buy today's e edition" then you will get the chance to set up an account. I could not verify whether this credit is still working this morning as I am a subscriber already, so please let me know if this works for you.
