Andrea

I don't know if any of you has read my "About Me" page here, but in it I told the following story:

I should tell you all that I come by this obsession (of finding a great deal) honestly!! There is a famous story in my family about my Papou (Greek for Grandfather) who recently passed away. Once many years ago, Papou went shopping and though I do not remember all the details accurately (my memory stinks), the basic jest is that on a shopping trip, he found ash trays on mega sale (I believe they were like 10 or 20 for a dollar), so Papou bought a case or two of them. No one in our family smokes at all and no one ever has, but he could not resist that deal. 40 or so years later, my mom and XiaXia (grandma) are still using those ash treys as candy dishes...

I am sure you can imagine that this is a family obsession, and my sister, Andrea likes a good deal as much as our Papou did and as much as I do! You can see a couple pictures of us above-one of us as children, and one as adults at her wedding. I am the beautiful brunette. :)

Andrea is going to be a contributor on this blog now as I feel the 2 of us together will do better at finding and posting the deals for you than I do alone.

I am going to let Andrea tell you about herself and her own deal finding obsession. Here she is:

Hello, fellow deal lovers!!  As my sister said, my name is Andrea and I also LOVE a great deal (it's in our blood).  Beckee is really the expert at finding awesome deals, but I occasionally find a great deal that I like to share as well.  So, Beckee was kind enough to invite me to contribute to her blog and hopefully help us all save a little more money.

Let me tell you a little about myself-I have been married for just over 10 years to a rock star accountant-his name is Jeremy.  We have four beautiful children-3 boys and 1 princess!  Sorry, you don't get to know their names.  ;)  We live in the Salt Lake Valley in Utah.  I am a stay at home Mom-I love to help my children and I'm on the PTA board at their school.  Family is the most important thing to me and I like to find deals that will benefit my family more than just financially-my favorite deals are free and discounted family activities.

Next week, I will be starting a $10 meals post.  My husband and I have always been very good at keeping our grocery budget pretty low while still feeding our family healthy and delicious meals.  I will be sharing my dinner ideas that you can make for your family for $10 or less!  Most of them will be for a family of 6 (since that's how big my family is)!  One of my favorite tricks is to use leftovers from one meal to create an entirely new meal with many of the same ingredients-big money and time saver!!  Look next Thursday for my first $10 meals post!  I am hoping to have more Utah deals for you as well.  Beckee already has a ton of Utah deals on here, but I'm hoping to be able to add more of a Utah perspective to the blog!  :)

Anyway-I think that's pretty much all there is to know about me.  Let me know if you have any questions! Thanks.

Andrea

I told you here about how Tight Wad in Utah has a section on her blog that is a list of Giveaways ending soon with LOW entries. Well, I have been entering the ones on her list daily, and over the past few weeks I have won a lot of giveaways. In fact, I won one just today from Mrs Nespys Frugal World. That win brings my grand total up to 10, yes TEN wins from the lists on the Tight Wad in Utah blog.

Wanna know what I won? I won a $25 Credit to Applied Labels as part of the Back to School Blowout giveaways on Mrs Nespys Frugal World. She has a TON of Giveaways going on and you should go check them out and enter to win!!

I posted about the fundraising dinner and auction HOAA through UNMC is doing next Thursday to benefit the Smith family. I hope some of you are able to attend that. I am including that information at the end of this email again, but I wanted to also let you know about a benefit going on TODAY at Family Fun Cutz (144th & Center). Today the salon is donating ALL proceeds from the entire day for the salon to the Smith Family.

And Saturday there will be facepainting and fingernail painting done at Family Fun Cutz as well. The proceeds from that will also go to the Smith Family. Please read about all Family Fun Cutz is planning here on the Adam Smith Memorial website.

If you are in Omaha, please read the following letter and consider attending this event sponsoerd by HOAA (which is a group to support families of residents. I am in the presidency):

August 18, 2010

Our Omaha Community,

Last week, the medical community lost a terrific doctor and wonderful man when fourth year Creighton radiology resident, Dr. Adam Smith, was struck by a drunk driver.

The House Officer’s Association Alliance (HOAA), which exists to provide support to the spouses and partners of residents and fellows at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, would like to do all that we can to help Adam’s wife Melissa and her three sons during this difficult time. We are asking the community to join us in this endeavor.

On Thursday, August 26, HOAA will be sponsoring a benefit dinner and silent auction with all proceeds going to the Adam Smith Memorial Fund. Dinner will be served anytime from 5 - 8 p.m., in the Lower Storz Pavillion on the ground floor of Clarkson hospital. Please make plans to join us if you can.

Tickets are available for a suggested donation of $15 each and can be reserved by
e-mailing us at hoaa.unmc@yahoo.com. Please put “tickets” in the subject line, and make sure to include your name and phone number in your message. Donations are also being accepted for the silent auction. Please contact Devon Toomey, our volunteer chair, at 402-932-8959 or toomeydevon@yahoo.com for more information.

Thank you and we hope to see you there!
